Koh Samui, busy doing what exactly?

Koh Samui, busy doing what exactly?
After a long absence from the blogosphere and a few gentle pushes from our guests I have finally got myself back in the seat(so to speak). Over the next few weeks we will be posting more about the resort and the island. I have finally convinced our chef that posting some recipes won’t mean he will end up out of a job. And our management team seem to be chomping at the bit to have a go. So watch this space.

To start the ball rolling I am re-positng one or two of our old blogs.
1 Because they are still relevant
2 Because i am lazy :)

The below is a personal favourite and is in response to some recent observations made.

Many people enquire about what to do on Samui, there is quite a lot and i promise my next blog will be on some pretty good stuff(i think so anyway), but i want to make a suggestion to you all …….for now why not just dwell on the following.

“Get busy doing Nothing!”

We all lead such active daily lives, both at work and at home. We just never seem to stop. And maybe that’s a problem, after all we weren’t built this way were we? I could and probably should go on and on about evolution ,our roots, how stress related illness is at an all time high and of course about how just in the last 20 years have seen the fastest technological developments and life changing inventions ever.To such a point that many people simply can’t keep up,and those that do, don’t realise just how tightly wound they are.

Life is moving so fast that we never really stops, we have our little tablets/ipads glued to our hands and even when resting our eyes wander to that shiny little screen and our thumbs furtively start pressing away . And that’s at home when its time to rest! How many times have we been in a restaurant or a bar and stopped to see whats arrived in the company mailbox?

Why?

Isn’t it possible were missing something here? Or maybe getting too much of the wrong thing? Over 50% of the world now lives in cities and cities never stop, but people have to don’t they?

I remember being so wired about work and life that i eventually made myself ill. I tool a step back and nothing really changed much. Well that’s not true ,you step back you pause and you see what your missing. And its around you all the time.(ok im preaching here)

I have heard the following, and variations of the same from many guests who have stayed with us here at Elements boutique resort and spa. Some have made similar comments on trip advisor

“You know ,when we first came we were worried about being here, i mean its so quiet ! And all you can hear is birds and frogs and …well nature. But now we so glad we did after all that what a holiday is about. And the local villages are just so nice Shame we going back to all that noise”

Ok the above looks like an advert for my resort ,and to be honest in a way it is. But actually what makes me write this blog is the following.

I was riding the bike to work thinking what id really like to do when i suddenly remembered a song id heard at home when watching a BBC2 movie on a Saturday afternoon when i was a kid. It must have been raining as i was one of those kids who lived up trees. The song never left my mind. When i got to Elements i down loaded it and played it to the gang and we all agreed that actually it was right ,sometimes you just have to get busy doing nothing!

Heres the lyrics

La-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

We’re busy doin’ nothin’ Workin’ the whole day through Tryin’ to find lots of things not to do We’re busy goin’ nowhere Isn’t it just a crime We’d like to be unhappy, but We never do have the time

I have to watch the river To see that it doesn’t stop And stick around the rosebuds So they’ll know when to pop And keep the crickets cheerful They’re really a solemn bunch Hustle, bustle And only an hour for lunch

La-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

We’re busy doin’ nothin’ Workin’ the whole day through Tryin’ to find lots of things not to do We’re busy goin’ nowhere Isn’t it just a crime We’d like to be unhappy, but We never do have the time

I have to wake the Sun up He’s liable to sleep all day And then inspect the rainbows So they’ll be bright and gay I must rehearse the songbirds To see that they sing in key Hustle, bustle And never a moment free

We’re busy doin’ nothin’ Workin’ the whole day through Tryin’ to find lots of things not to do We’re busy going nowhere Isn’t it just a crime We’d like to be unhappy, but We never do have the time

I have to meet a turtle I’m teachin’ him how to swim Then I have to shine the dewdrops You know they’re looking rather dim I told my friend, the robin I’d buy him a brand new vest Hustle, bustle We never do have We never do have We never do, never do Never do, never do, never do have the time Never do have the time

So when coming to Koh Samui and wondering what to do remember! Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing! Ive taken the liberty of
uploading the file for you to listen to-Enjoy(Thank you Mr Crosby) 07 Busy Doing Nothing
